A love of needle and thread runs deep for this mother–daughter duo. Judy Peterson’s creative journey began as a child, stitching alongside her great-grandmother, and that early spark has guided a lifetime of artistic exploration. Though Judy has worked across many mediums—professionally oil painting, teaching her techniques to others, and even teaching school while raising her children—she always returns to the quiet power of fabric, needle, and thread.
Based in Oregon’s beautiful Willamette Valley, Judy and Angelia Peterson draw constant inspiration from the world around them. Within an hour of beaches, snow-capped mountains, winding rivers, and abundant wildlife, the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest find their way into their work. Each quilt reflects this connection to place, where the rhythm of nature meets thoughtful design and careful craftsmanship.
Together, Judy and her daughter Angelia—a professional photographer—push creative boundaries and delight in thinking beyond the box. While Angelia has no interest in sewing, her eye for imagery and design plays a vital role in their collaborative process. Their quilts are always original, sometimes re-imagined or expanded upon, and often incorporate Angelia’s photography directly into the fabric. When the perfect color can’t be found, they create it themselves through hand-dyeing or painting. The result is a body of work rich in texture, technique, and storytelling—quilts that invite you to slow down, look closely, and enjoy the journey of creativity right alongside them.
